Obsessed Series 005: Manchester Orchestra

Nothing like seeing a band live.
Especially when you love them more than you did walking in.

I've always been a fan of Manchester Orchestra, but now it's like I truly fell in love with them. Sure I would listen to the handful songs I had from them recommended from various friends, but now...now it's true love. I've never appreciated them like I do now and all of you, yes all of you need to, too. Andy Hull, singer/songwriter/guitarist, writes some of the most honest lyrics and his voice is so raw and fierce. I went to go see them in Charlotte on a whim and I'm so glad I did. I even walked out with their newest album on vinyl, Simple Math.

In other news,
+ I am officially home for the Thanksgiving holiday.
+ I did photography for my first wedding reception. Preview pictures to come!
+ I am looking forward to gaining 10+ pounds this week.
+ I've downloaded some new fonts & gotten new music. Both of which make me extremely happy!
+ I leave you with "Deer" by Manchester Orchestra and you'll understand my love. It is the first song on their new album. [Sorry, no actual music video for this song]

OBSESSED 004: SCENTS

Ah, my favorite scents!

Did you know?
  • Our sense of smell is the first to develop of all our sense? Even before we are born, our sense of smell is fully developed & functioning.
  • Tests show a 40% improvement in our mood when exposed to a pleasant fragrance?
  • A woman's sense of smell is keener than a man's.
  • Scent is the closest sense linked to memory.
Above I have made a compilation of most of my favorite scents! There are a few that I'm missing, but other than that, these are my absolute favorite. I do believe that scents can alter my mood. I love smelling good, I love when things smell good and I love when other people smell good. Here are the names of the scents I enjoy:

1. Moschino's I love love (my "signature" scent)
2. Herbal Essence body envy (passionflower sunrise & pearl)
3. Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Collection: Eucalyptus Mint
(I literally have the shampoo, condition, body wash, hand soap, candle, room spray and pillow mist.)
4. Dove Go Fresh Energizing Body Mist (grapefruit & lemongrass)
5. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue (love it!)
6. Gap's Dream
7. Bath & Body Work's Midnight Pomegranate (a good winter scent)
8. The Body Shop's Satsuma!

Smell ya later!

OBSESSED 003: TOM'S EYEWEAR

Yes!
Tom's shoes have expanded into eyewear, with of course, the One for One Movement in mind.
Now a new pair of shades can give sight. Literally.
For less than a pair of designer shades.

Check it out at: http://www.toms.com/eyewear/

If i wasn't trying to visit every crevass in the world right now, I would buy a pair.
It is definitely on the list.
If you have some money saved up and you were thinking about those RayBans...
forget about it! Buy Toms!

As for my personal update: My internships are really well. I can't stress how blessed I feel for these opportunities. The past few days have been nothing short of wonderful. Got to see one of my favorite bands (Mumford & Sons) with a handful of my favorite people. I will definitely update and expand on that later when I don't have 46,754 things to do on my to-do list. Oops. That's what happens when I disappear from the work place for two days.

Things are good.
And they just keep getting better.

OBSESSED 002: TOMS SHOES

"With every pair you purchase,
TOMS will give a pair of new shoes
to a child in need. One For One."

If you don't already know about TOMS, Which rock have you been living under?!
This is a business started by Blake Mycoskie that takes their customers and create benefactors. Instead of relying on fundraising, they allow for a sustainable business that makes profit and donates right back to their cause too. As someone who is majoring in Public Relations with a focus on nonprofit organizations, I can't help but look up to TOMS Shoes as a respectable business and plus, I love their shoes.

Here are my own pairs I've purchased.

So far they've traveled to Argentina, Rwanda, Ethiopia, South Africa, and the U.S. for shoe drops. Hopefully I'll be able to participate in one of them! They've got great styles and always coming up with new ones.
Currently the ones I have my eye:

How do you know the shoes are getting to the kids?
TOMS Shoes provides a Giving Report. It is a 11 page report that breaks down where the shoes go, to whom, etc. One of my classmates argued with me about the validity of TOMS Shoes one time.

As a class we had read a case study about Kasky vs Nike. Nike was accused of lax labor laws and she was arguing that even though she knew about them abandoning labor laws, she would still purchase their shoes because of their "quality". When I rebutted, stating that there are other companies that do good with their products, like TOMS Shoes, she (in a not so nice tone, might I add) criticized TOMS by replying "Do you know if the shoes actually get there?" and my answer now is YES, THEY DO. Here's your proof fellow public relations major.

REMEMBER, APRIL 5 IS ONE DAY WITHOUT SHOES.

If you don't have a pair of TOMS, just think about it :]

OBSESSED: Primo's Dinner Special

I've decided to start a series of blogs named "OBSESSED".
The name says it all.
The current things I've become liking....obsessively.

Today - Primo's Restaurant Dinner Special
MmMmMmMm right?

Chicken, Fresh Spinach, Roasted Red Peppers,
Garlic, and Penne Pasta tossed in lemon and a
white wine cream sauce.
(served with a side salad or cup of soup with garlic knots)

Primo's is a local Italian Restaurant of Boone serving pasta, pizza, and subs that I happen to work at! So it may be a little biased that I'm obsessed with their food, but every night we have a dinner special and a soup of the day. I have waited WEEKS for this dinner special to come up again! (It's very random, but more exciting that way!) If you live in Boone, make it out to Primo's and even though it may not be the dinner special for that evening, the food is fantastic. Maybe I should send you a link of the menu. The mouth-drooling-watering-make-you-want-to-binge menu.

I have many other blogs in mind for my Obsession series.
Keep a look out :]
